What is PRP?

PRP stands for platelet rich plasma and this technique is used to heal injuries. PRP shots which are basically based on person own blood, are now a days being used increasingly to treat sport injuries or help to heal the wound after surgical procedures. Some cosmetologist also use PRP technique in a cosmetic procedures to target signs of aging such as wrinkles.

What can PRP treat?

PRP injections are used to treat muscle injuries, arthritis related pain, tendinitis and joint injuries.

PRP Calabasas shots are getting more common in cosmetic procedures too, dermatologist and hair replacement experts use PRP injections to treat a type of hair loss condition called Androgenic alopecia which is commonly known as pattern baldness which affects commonly to men and women. What does each PRP shot contains?

Plasma is a liquid part of blood that's made up of mostly with water and proteins and it allows RBC, WBC and platelets to flow through the bloodstream. Platelets in PRP shots makes blood to clot rapidly and they play a major role in healing.

To collect plasma, for PRP technique, doctor draws blood from the body of the one going to receive this treatment and then uses a machine that separate the platelet-rich plasma from the blood. Then doctors numbs the area of the body being treated with PRP injections by giving local anesthesia and then doctor uses a needle to inject plasma into that area of body that's going to be treated.

Do PRP injection really works?

Studies have shown that there are certain conditions in which PRP injection work on. For example, a research study has shown that PRP injection speed up healing after an injury or surgery for certain conditions like torn tendons. In addition to it's work on healing, PRP injections curb pain, boost mobility for those suffering from rotator cuff injuries. When given with a cosmetic procedure purpose, PRP injections reduce hair loss in people with pattern baldness. It's not yet clear that whether facial PRP injections reduce the signs of aging like wrinkles and sagging skin.
